Ink Blot

This is my favorite Inkblot from the Rorschach test. I see it as a demonic skull-looking thing that has a tongue that looks sorta like a bull. However, in the smaller view, as it shows up on the blog page, I see it as more insect-like. Anyone else?

Also...

I skidded though a tire during Critical Mass on Friday while whipping a fishtail... sounded like a glass bottle exploding, and all of a sudden I was riding on the rim. Pretty spectacular. Didn't crash. But I decided no more cheap tires for me, back to the good ones; put a 700x25 (instead of 23) Conti Ultra Gatorskin on today. Maybe the extra width will help improve ride quality and skidding longevity? Maybe? Ok back to reading now.

I'm really going to start posting again. I read Bjorn's comment on my last post and it made me laugh so I decided I need to start posting again.

As it usually was, this blog will continue to be mostly self-centered "lookit this" kinda stuff and random web links... nothing important.

Just to get anything remotely relevant out of the way, I've finished one rotation (Geriatrics) and am now onto another (Psych). Both have turned out to be alot more fun than I had anticipated and I actually like talking to patients. I still suspect a more hands-on specialty might be more up my alley, but we'll see.

Ok back to random now. 2 things I like / want right now:

A factoid that anyone who travels in the midwest will like: from Wichita to just south of Emporia, you can pickup 104.5 the Fox, classic rock. From Emporia all the way to KC (and presumably an hour north of KC) you can pick up 101.1 the Fox, classic rock. 101.1 Is a much better station, and is probably one of the best rock stations I've ever heard. Turn it on, and there's about a 50% chance there's either a Zeppelin or Pink Floyd song on.

Time for new posts, says Naomi. Alright.

Well we had Geriatrics orientation today. Lots of talkin at us, but that's probably necessary. Tomorrow, I start seeing patients. Real, live patients. Half day at clinic. Then I head over to Via Christi HOPE and the Dept. of Aging to learn about community agency services for elderly in Wichita.

Kinda intimidating. However, I'm still waaay too tired from this weekend to even be stressed. Read a little bit about dementia tonight, and now I'm just going to go to sleep.

Other new stuff:
Had to give Skoney up. She bit my dad's finger to the bone and gave him Pasturella or some other cat-mouth bacteria. She hated my parents cats and they hated her. She's now at Boot Camp indefiinitely. I called Jake Skoney today, as I heard a pet walking my it was my gut reaction. Made me kinda sad. It is the best thing for Skoney and all of us though.

Will start posting more. Now off to bed.

Well, the first two years of med school are over. They went pretty quick, it seems. Now, to study for a month straight and then rock the boards. That's the goal at least. Blog posts will likely become either few and far between, or very common, as I descend into studying madness.

Mo' Money, Mo' Hawk

So, ever since I was a kid, I've wanted a mohawk. My self-identification with Native Americans combined with my love of most things ridiculous always made me want one. Leave it to me to wait until the most inopportune time (med school, when I have to be responsible and see patients) to finally get up the nerve to do it.

At the alleycat the other day, I agreed to shave off most of my hair because (1) I had been contemplating cutting my hair short for a while, and (2) because I thought this would allow me to temporarily rock a mohawk. Well, #2 has finally come true. And I dig it.

Furthermore, according to Wiki:
"[Many] accounts of Native American cultures [...] claim that [i]n times of war, Mohawk men shaved their heads except for a scalplock or a crest down the center of their head--the hairstyle known as a roach or a "Mohawk."

And, with Pharm Shelf and Boards coming up, I figure this is as good a time as any for a mohawk. I need to be ready for a standardized-test-war.

So after the LAST test on Friday, Andrew (who, inspired by my 'hawk, has also agreed to shave his hair into one) and I are going to invite every willing body over to his place to shave heads into war hairdo's, to celebrate the last time in our lives that we'll be able to wear such ridiculous hair, and prepare for the biggest test of our lives.

Also, Matt, prepare for me to crash your graduation in a suit and mohawk. If I was really spiteful, I'd resolve to drink as much as you did when you came to mine... but I don't think I could :-P

Hellkat Hustle III Route and Pictures

So this is the route that we rode for the Hellkat Hustle III on Sunday. 29.5 miles. Carrying 12 beers each in our bags (well, I had 11 for alot of it, since one burst) as part of the rules.
Google says it would take 1 hr 47 min to drive this. We rode it in about 3 hrs 30 minutes. Not so bad, considering all the stops and challenges we had to do (including gathering up 12 tires that had been dumped in a neighborhood).

I'm actually really pleased with it, considering I did it in the bathroom. Feels liberating : )

Hellkat Hustle (III?)

So Kyle and I won the Hellkat Hustle today. It required alot of riding (~18-20 miles or so), and at two different points: (1) wearing almost nothing but body paint and (2) shaving my hair into a mohawk. Don't worry, Naomi and Mom, I didn't go bald+stripe of hair.... I had been considering buzzing it all off anyway, so I buzzed it down to a half-inch+stripe of hair. The stripe will probably get shaved off tomorrow.

Long, ridiculous, tiring day. A lot of fun though.

*edit: I don't really have the materials or the patience to spike it up very well. But here's some pictures of the hideous hairdo I'll have until tonight or so.

So the issue of Ink was published today that featured Goldsprints. I went from "being on the cover" to "one picture at the end of the article" to "that picture isn't on the online version." So, kinda disappointing. Oh well.
